Rolling Stone Magazine…Hear Eric Church, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings’ Brooding ‘Bury My Heart’

Canadian roots-music heroes Blackie and the Rodeo Kings enlisted an all-star lineup of female vocalists – Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash and Emmylou Harris, among them – for their 2011 album Kings and Queens. Now the singer-songwriter supergroup of Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing and Tom Wilson are playing with the boys, releasing their new album Kings and Kings in the U.S. on January 13th.

Jason Isbell, Vince Gill, Buddy Miller, Raul Malo and Eric Church all turn up on the project, with Church elevating the brooding track “Bury My Heart” with his distinctly nasal delivery. It’s the type of nuanced, impassioned vocal performance that reinforces his nomination for Male Vocalist at the upcoming CMA Awards. “Bury My Heart” premieres exclusively onRolling Stone Country below.

As promised Blackie and The Rodeo Kings are set to deliver the companion piece to their 2011 collaboration album King And Queens. Where that album featured guest appearances from some of the band’s favourite female singers, Kings And Kings features some of the band’s best ‘guy’ friends from the world of roots, blues, and country. Each one of them an accomplished ‘king’ in their realm of creative endeavors and in many cases absolute ‘king’ legends in the entertainment industry.

“Some of these were fellows we knew well and had made lots of music with like Bruce Cockburn, Buddy Miller, and Keb Mo, and some were new heroes and discoveries like Fantastic Negrito and Dallas Green,” saysColin Linden. “Some, were icons who I had shared some guitaring with like Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, Eric Church, and Raul Malo. And some were icons new and preloved who joined us out of kindness I suppose, like Nick Lowe and Jason Isbell. And some were my dear pals I work on the Nashville TV show with; Chris Carmack, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson, and Sam Palladio.”

Set for release October 7 via File Under: Music, the first single “Beautiful Scars” reminds us of Tom Wilson’s Lee Harvey Osmond album Beautiful Scars. Wilson jokes that he wrote the title track of his album after it’s release. The song itself is inspired by novelist Miriam Toews benefits from an amazing vocal performance by Dallas Green (City And Colour).

SOUTH – Nominated for a JUNO Award

We are happy to announce that BARK have been nominated for a 2015 Juno Award. Our album “South” up for ROOTS & TRADITIONAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: Group category. The past couple of years have been pretty great for us; appearing on the Grand Ole Opry and performing at the famous Bluebird Cafe with our friends from the hit NBC television show Nashville. In 2014 we had the opportunity to perform our music  at great festivals like Shrewsbury Folk Festival in the UK and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco..good times! As we break ground on our next album “Kings and Kings”, we would like to thank all the folks who have supported us along the way.  See you in Hamilton for the Juno Awards.

Peter Cooper On Music: Canadian Colin Linden does a little of everything..!

Colin Linden is the guy you’re pretty sure you know from somewhere.

He’s the darkly attired guy you’ve seen at the grocery store, and the darkly attired guy you’ve seen playing in various actors’ bands on ABC’s “Nashville.” And he’s the darkly attired guy who you’re pretty sure you saw playing with Emmylou Harris, and also on that night when you stumbled into 3rd and Lindsley to hear a Canadian roots rock band called Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.

And wasn’t he a part of that “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” project? And didn’t you hear about him joining Bob Dylan’s band last year? Isn’t he a producer or something? Or a blues guy?

“Yes” to all of that. Linden never seems in a hurry, but he’s a dervish: Hardest-working Nashville-based Canadian in show business.

SOUTH, is a fresh creative step for songwritersStephen Fearing, Colin Linden, and Tom Wilson. Blackie and the Rodeo Kings’ latest album builds on their consistently energetic performances with largely acoustic yet reliably punchy arrangements, showcasing the multiple strengths of the alt-country super group.

Outside of Blackie, the three have maintained their individual careers. Fearing is a widely respected solo artist, and is half of the duo Fearing and White with noted Irish artist Andy White. Wilsonhas worked solo, as well as leading the bandsJunkhouse and Lee Harvey Osmond. Linden, who relocated to Nashville in 1996, has released several solo albums and recently played guitar inBob Dylan’s touring band. As guitarist, songwriter and/or producer, he’s also worked with the likes ofThe Band, T-Bone Burnett, Bruce Cockburn, Emmylou Harris, Diana Krall, Leon Redbone, and Lucinda Williams.
